	Itami City Museum of Art opened to the public in November 1987, as an extension of Kakimori Bunko building site to share its facilities. The fundamental theme of the museum collection is ''satire and humor''. Our main collection includes works by Honoré Daumier, one of the leading artists of the 19th century France. As to follow this major collection, we hold caricature works of his French contemporaries, and also a large amount of satirical prints by well-known British artists such as William Hogarth, James Gillray, and George Cruikshank. Other collection includes prints, paintings, and sculptures of contemporary artists from different countries. Works such as one of the important oil paintings by Raoul Dufy, ''Amphitrite'', and amusing large graphics by contemporary American artists, though small in number, enhancing the collection.
The basement exhibition rooms are for showing works selected from the museum collection. On the second floor space, we hold several special exhibitions each year representing the nature of the museum. Such example can be seen in the past exhibitions; ''Spirit of Satire'', Posada (Mexican artist) exhibition; and French caricature artist Gavarni's exhibition. We also aim to explore a wider range of interests; the exhibitions of Max Klinger who represents German artists, Kritische Grafik in der Weimarer Zeit; Hokusai Mangwa known as UKIYOE; Japanese printmaking artist Hamada Chimei's exhibition is worthly of mention, . We continue to present unique exhibitions that other museums have not dealt with. We are keen to organize lectures and workshops relevant to our exhibitions throughout the year.
